Kurt is a Ph.D level Licensed Professional Counselor who has been offering hope and healing to individuals, couples, and families since 1994. Kurt believes that the words hope and healing represent two of our greatest needs as human beings. Without hope, people drift toward despair. Without healing for life’s traumas and losses, we tend to continue in our painful, dysfunctional patterns.
Kurt comes from a pastoral background and served nearly 20 years in church ministry. As a skilled communicator, he also teaches psychology, sociology, and leadership classes at several colleges in West Michigan. He treasures it when people trust him with their premarital, marital, and other relational concerns; their personal struggles with depression, anxiety, and coping with past traumas; their journeys through grief and loss; and their faith issues and questions.
One of his favorite things about being a Christian counselor is communicating with others about the practical ways that Scripture applies to everyday life. Far too many people regard the Bible as God’s Word, but they don’t understand that God wants us to know His words and use them in our everyday circumstances. His life verse is 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
Kurt and his wife Cathy have been married since 1993. They have two children – one in college and one in high school. In addition to his marriage and family, Kurt is passionate about his personal walk with God, sports (especially following his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers), and coffee.
