Nola holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work from Grand Valley State University and a doctoral degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. Nola is passionate about working with children, teens, and families to provide help and support through difficult seasons of their lives. Nola has received specialized training in treating traumatic stress and is especially skilled in working with children and adults who have experienced adversity and traumatic life events. In addition, Nola has extensive experience helping clients to address anxiety, depression, stress, behavioral and relationship difficulties.
Nola worked for several years with families in the child welfare system and helped to develop a trauma treatment program for adoptive children. She has provided counseling services for mental health needs, refugee resettlement, and family support services. Nola has also spent time researching and teaching social work.
Nola takes an empowerment and strengths-based perspective and desires for her clients to realize their value and how deeply they are loved as children of God. Nola offers a faith-based approach in her counseling work and often utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and relationship-based counseling to help clients move forward through difficult times.
Nola and her husband have been married for 37 years. They enjoy spending time with their 5 grown children and their families. Nola loves the outdoors and enjoys gardening, hiking, and spending time at the lake.
